Pergolas & Gazebos

Pergolas and Gazebos for Shade and Outdoor Living

A pergola or gazebo gives your yard a defined, shaded place to eat, relax and entertain. Green Acres builds cedar and timber pergolas and gazebos in Wilmington, DE and New Castle County, as stand-alone structures or over a patio, fire pit or outdoor kitchen.

Pergolas filter sun and give climbing plants a frame. Gazebos add a solid roof for rain and stronger sun protection.

I have used Green Acres since 2016 for mowing and landscaping. My lawn is a steep hill and the staff does an amazing job. I have a large mulch area that Green Acres does each spring. I am extremely pleased and recommend them for any lawn care needs.

Commercial Property Manager here ! We recently made the switch to Green Acres from another "popular" commercial lawn care company. After increases in pricing and steady decline in services, care, and pride in craftsmanship we knew that it was time to make a change. Green Acres has been great in understanding our needs- we are a dual property with a…

FAQ

Pergola and Gazebo Questions in Delaware

Timber gazebo shading a backyard seating area
What is the difference between a pergola and a gazebo?

A pergola has an open lattice roof that filters sun and supports climbing plants, with open sides. A gazebo has a solid roof and is often a freestanding, partly enclosed structure with fuller protection from sun and rain. Pergolas suit patios, and gazebos suit a separate destination spot.

What affects the cost of a pergola or gazebo?

Size, material, roof style, footings, whether it is attached to the house or freestanding, added features like lighting or fans, and the surface beneath it. A pergola over an existing patio costs differently from a gazebo built with its own base.

Do pergolas and gazebos need a permit?

Often yes. Permit requirements depend on size, height, whether the structure is attached to the house, and whether it has a solid roof, and HOAs frequently require approval as well. We check the rules for your address before the design is final so there are no surprises.

Can a pergola go over my existing patio?

Usually yes, if the patio can support the posts and footings can be placed correctly. Sometimes we cut in new footings or add structural support through the patio. We inspect the patio first and tell you what is needed before you commit to the project.

Can I add lighting or an outdoor kitchen under it?

Yes. Pergolas and gazebos are common over dining areas, outdoor kitchens and fire pit seating. Planning wiring, gas lines and drainage at the design stage keeps the installation simple, and lets us place posts so they do not interfere with appliances, counters or seating.
