Lawn Care

What does lawn care and mowing include?

Every visit covers the work that keeps a Delaware lawn even and clean: mowing at the right height for your grass type, crisp edges along walks, drives and beds, trimming around fences and trees, and blowing clippings off hard surfaces.

Cool-season turf grows hard in spring and fall and slows in July and August. Your schedule follows that rhythm instead of treating every week the same.

What Affects Cost

What changes the price of lawn care?

We do not post one-size prices because lawns differ. These four things set your estimate.

01

Lot size

The total mowed area, not the whole property. Beds and wooded areas are measured separately.

02

Frequency

Weekly service is planned more efficiently than occasional visits.

03

Terrain and access

Slopes, tight gates, fences and obstacles add time to every visit.

04

Add-ons

Fertilization, aeration, overseeding, cleanups and bed work are quoted on top of mowing.

Delaware Lawn Calendar

What happens on your lawn each season?

Spring

Focus
Fast growth as soil warms. Weekly mowing begins, and lawns are checked for winter damage.
Add-ons to consider
Spring cleanup, a first fertilizer round and weed prevention.

Summer

Focus
Growth slows in July and August heat. Mowing stays high to shade the soil.
Add-ons to consider
Weed control rounds and irrigation checks.

Fall

Focus
A second growth push. Early fall is the best time to thicken turf.
Add-ons to consider
Aeration and overseeding, then leaf removal and a final mow.
“I have used Green Acres since 2016 for mowing and landscaping. My lawn is a steep hill and the staff does an amazing job.”

FAQ

Lawn care and mowing questions in Wilmington, DE

How often should a lawn be mowed in Delaware?

Most cool-season lawns in northern Delaware grow fastest in spring and early fall, so weekly mowing fits those months. In the heat of midsummer growth slows and many lawns do well on a bi-weekly schedule. We set the schedule with you after we see the property, then adjust it as the season changes.

What height should my grass be cut to?

Cool-season grasses such as tall fescue, Kentucky bluegrass and perennial ryegrass do best at roughly 3 to 4 inches. Taller grass shades the soil, holds moisture and crowds out weeds. Cutting no more than one third of the blade in a single visit keeps the lawn from stressing, which is why we avoid scalping.

Does lawn mowing include edging and trimming?

Yes. Each mowing visit covers the mow itself, edging along walks, drives and beds, string trimming around fences, trees and other obstacles, and blowing clippings off hard surfaces. Fertilizing, weed control, aeration, overseeding and bed work are add-ons that we quote separately so you only pay for what you want.

What affects the cost of a lawn care plan?

Four things drive the price: the size of the mowed area, how often we visit, terrain such as slopes and tight gates, and any add-ons. A flat quarter-acre lot costs less to maintain than a sloped lot with many beds. We give a written estimate after looking at your yard.
