Seasonal Service

Fall Winterization and Spring Start-Up

Fall blowout and winterization

Delaware winters freeze water left in irrigation lines. We clear the water from your system with compressed air before the first hard freeze to protect pipes, valves and heads.

Spring start-up

After the danger of freezing passes, we restart the system, check every zone for leaks and broken heads, adjust coverage and set the controller.

We had them remove old pavers from our small backyard, patio, install new ones, build a retaining wall, regrade the backyard after a fence move, and reseed an area of the backyard. They did a great job and we are very happy with the work as well as the professionalism of the team. We were surprised at how quickly the seeded…

I have used Green Acres since 2016 for mowing and landscaping. My lawn is a steep hill and the staff does an amazing job. I have a large mulch area that Green Acres does each spring. I am extremely pleased and recommend them for any lawn care needs.

Commercial Property Manager here ! We recently made the switch to Green Acres from another "popular" commercial lawn care company. After increases in pricing and steady decline in services, care, and pride in craftsmanship we knew that it was time to make a change. Green Acres has been great in understanding our needs- we are a dual property with a…
FAQ

Irrigation Questions in Wilmington, DE

Sprinkler heads watering a landscaped lawn
When should I winterize my sprinkler system in Delaware?

Have it blown out in fall, before the first hard freeze. Water left in pipes, valves and heads expands as it freezes and can crack them. A winterization removes that water with compressed air so the system survives the winter.

What happens at a spring start-up?

We turn the water on slowly, check each zone, look for leaks and broken heads, adjust coverage and set the controller. Doing this after the danger of freezing has passed catches winter damage before it wastes water or leaves dry spots.

What affects the cost of a sprinkler system?

Lot size, the number of zones, sprinkler head types, trenching conditions, water source and backflow prevention, the controller, and restoration of the lawn afterward all matter. More complex yards with slopes, beds and tree roots take longer. We design a layout and quote it after a site visit.

Do you repair existing irrigation systems?

Yes. Common repairs include broken heads, leaks, clogged nozzles, failed valves and controller problems. If your lawn has dry patches or brown spots, or your water bill spikes, we can diagnose the cause and fix it, or tell you when a section should be redesigned.

Are smart controllers worth it?

Smart controllers adjust watering to weather and season, which can reduce overwatering and save water. They cost more than basic timers, so they pay off most on larger properties or yards with heavy irrigation. We help you choose a controller based on your lawn and how you use the system.
